How was your day today?
Was it relaxed, chill, boring? IF so let’s fix that right now. If not, congratulations you get a sticker for the day, but you must begin again tomorrow.
Human beings are designed to seek comfort.
Look anywhere in the world and you will see entire societies and cities dedicated to soft edges, supermarkets full of food, running water, cars, buses, phones in our hands.
All of this is great, and has helped our societies become truly a great time to live.
But there’s a cost.
Having access to everything we ever could want or need at our fingertips has made us weaker.
Most men today are overweight, can’t lift anything, and broke as a joke.
Not all of it is your fault but it is your responsibility. This world is easier if you live in a first world country, and we need to supplement our lifestyles with lifting weights just to keep up with how our great grandparents looked, tough and muscular.
We need diets to tone down the barrage of food thrown at us.
We need the discomfort of discipline to keep us on track.
This week was very uncomfortable for me but I loved every minute of it. Working 8 hours straight on a roof is hard ass work but at over $100 an hour at the end of it all it’s definitely worth it for now. Even after that a couple days this week I still got to the gym and put in the time to make the muscles grow.
I’m utterly exhausted as I type this, but wouldn’t have it any other way.
The feeling of accomplishment at the end of a day where you got shit done is incredible. That’s why I’m writing this, if anything for my future self to read these words and get fired up.
Push your limits every day.
The best test I’ve found to see how much I got done that day is how fast I fall asleep. If there’s a day in which I rest and generally do nothing (sometimes needed) I often find it’s harder to fall asleep. The mind is racing. The body still has energy. This means you still had much left in the tank and did not fulfill your potential for the day.
But tonight I already know I will sleep like I’m dead.
Put in the work every day. Grind. Grow. Become uncomfortable.
Making money in new areas is uncomfortable. Growing past your limits is uncomfortable. Lifting weights and breaking down your muscle fibers is uncomfortable. These signify growth, which is a fundamental part of our existence.
We are truly either growing or dying. Sometimes I feel like I’m crazy but if I do nothing all day and ‘take it easy’ I feel like shit, sleep like shit, and feel death slowly creeping upon me.
Steven Pressfield calls it ‘resistance’ and he is 100% correct. Resistance wants to lead you to death but we must fight it every single day. We can only defeat it 1 day at a time, we must wake up anew each day to slay our proverbial dragon.
But this is what makes us men.
This is what keeps us ALIVE.
Get to work- Spencer
