Arguably one of the most overused titles in the space, making money on the internet is a very large and controversial topic
I’ve made hundreds of thousands of dollars on the internet and in person and I will still tell you it changes all the time.
But we will break it down in a new way.
Regardless of the method you pick there are really only 3 main ways you can make money that all revolve around 1 major strategy.
You can monetize views alone (youtube ads, google adsense, paid by Facebook etc)
You can sell a product or service (coaching, organic goat cheese, software)
You can affiliate for a product or service (same as above except you don’t own the business)
All of these models need one major thing. Traffic.
They all work on a function of the level of traffic that you can get. As such we will assign a score to each method in terms of impact, this will all make sense in a minute.
For method 1 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest leverage it gets a 3.
Method 2 gets an 8
Method 3 gets a 5.
And from here you can have combinations of these models.
For example, anyone you see that has a very popular youtube channel that get millions of views it is actually pretty common for them to not make that much money. You need millions upon millions of views to make any real money and since the score of that business is a 3 you don’t have very much impact.
People learn this very fast and this is why you see everyone schilling some product or service or getting sponsored to promote some new gaming or gambling app.
This way they can combine a level 3 business with a level 5 business.
Since views alone don’t pay much they need another way to monetize and get paid more.
The opposite goes for selling your own product or service. Because you have a level 8 of impact, it means you need far less traffic to get by.
I know pages that only have a few thousand followers that make $50,000 a month because they sell their own form of high ticket coaching or something where at $3,000-10,000 per sale they do not need many sales to make very good money.
The high ticket space is interesting, and as someone who has also hit $30,000 and $40,000/month from selling coaching I will say it can be a great way to get started but it has it’s own issues as well.
You certainly have to become used to providing a lot to your clients.
At the end of the day all business revolves around providing as much value to the end user as possible.
If you just post videos on how to make a wooden table that is cool, but you aren’t affecting any real change on the viewers life. They can watch your video but there isn’t really a way for them to give you money.
Youtube or other platforms can capitalize on this viewer by showing them an ad before, during, or after a video and you can get paid a piece of that.
But it’s pennies, when if you are able to give more value to the viewer you will be paid more.
To start you could sell a course on how to exactly measure and cut the table pieces, or the plans for the wooden table. Now your user is much closer to the end result they want.
Another way is you could even sell these wooden tables on your website. This would make sense because likely people want a table and since you’re the expert they might as well just buy from you.
Both of those allow for you to get paid far more than just a few pennies for the view that Google adsense pays you.
It is truly a beautiful thing, this internet money.
Recently I completed a challenge on Facebook of posting 20 videos in 30 days, you get paid per view and a bonus.
I was able to make an extra $1,000 last month from posting videos that also help to sell my products and services.
I have software, books, and a group where folks can learn to do this whole online or home service business thing.
Any platform that wants to pay me to put the word out is more than welcome!
The more traffic you can get for these platforms the better, and they know this so they try and bribe you as much as possible to keep people posting.
There are many pros and cons to this we can get in on another article but the jist of all of this is to focus on being able to generate as much traffic as possible.
When you have traffic, all other doors open to you. You can sell your stuff, or if you so choose you can sell the stuff of other people through affiliates or something.
Affiliates are great as well because unlike selling your own stuff you don’t actually have to do anything. Last year I made an extra $10k just by telling my audience where to purchase the best christmas lights to hang on houses.
I didn’t have to ship anything out or touch the product, I simply got paid because I had traffic from providing value to my users.
Compared with high ticket coaching (which I no longer do) you have to provide alot for a client. There are calls you need to show up for, videos to record, and extra stress of making sure the client follows through with your shit.
This isn’t hard to do, but after a year or two It just didn’t match my personality.
That’s really the key to all of this.
Of all these methods, which one matches your personality most?
Some people don’t like to be on camera so they write or podcast, others don’t like to write so they make videos. Those that want to run their own business make videos about what they do to help people.
There are literally thousands of combinations, it just takes time to build up traffic/audience and be aligned with them.
This has been one of my main drawbacks. I have built a large audience by teaching them 1 thing (how to build a six figure home service business) and it becomes harder to branch out and teach other things.
But this is why I write articles like this and make videos on this topic. It takes time but the more content I put out the more traffic I accumulate over time.
You can always change what you do. The point is, start putting your thoughts out into the world.
Even beyond what we just discussed, all we are doing is taking some of our own energy whether that be our thoughts, experiences, or emotions and putting it out for the world to see and internalize.
The more people that like what you put out the more money you will make, simple as that.
Put out useful content, build traffic, get paid for your traffic, then either sell your own product or service, or affiliate for someone else’s product or service.
Keep tweaking over time and add or subtract based on how you want to live your life.
You are simply a few posts away from unlocking levels of freedom the world has never experienced in history.
The internet made all of this possible and frankly if you aren’t using it on some level you need to get on it. Getting traffic gets more difficult day by day, or at least the methods behind it change the most.
Throw your shirt in the ring, start posting and start making money!
It doesn’t take much. Eventually all of these little things add up and suddenly you’re making thousands of dollars or tens of thousands per month.
You can live anywhere, work from anywhere, and get paid to essentially live your own life.
What an incredible time we live in.
I’ll see you in the next post
Let’s get it my friend!
Your man,
-Spencer Claeys
